Crest of the Wave
Crest of the Wave is a podcast for the Daytona Beach region's business community. A production of the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, the podcast will keep the regional business community connected to a strong economic and business environment in the greater Daytona Beach area. The Crest of the Wave will be filled with great conversation in support of a thriving community featuring the business leaders, community leaders, and elected officials who are making things happen across the region.

In spring of 2023, then-chair of the Daytona Regional Chamber, Nellie Lupoli of ICI Homes, was contemplating what challenge she would issue to the Leadership Daytona class later that summer. Reviewing data from the Florida Chamber’s “Florida Scorecard”, she discovered that only 50% of 3rd graders in Volusia County were reading on or above grade level, and she knew instantly this presented an opportunity.
In part one of a two-part series of Crest of the Wave, we’ll talk with two members of Leadership Daytona Class 43 which responded to Lupoli’s challenge…Dr. Michelle Goldys from Daytona State College and Devin Miller from Brown & Brown Insurance. They’ll tell us what they learned researching their class response, and how it has evolved into a new initiative supporting youth literacy in the region, Readers to Leaders.
